Negan killing a character in The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere will be awful to watch, but not the worst thing to happen in the show.
The Walking Dead Director Greg Nicotero stopped by during an episode of Kevin Smith’s Geeking Out (via ComicBook.com) to talk about the premiere. Nicotero had the sad honor of directing the premiere episode where fans will find out who Negan beat to death. Nicotero knows fans will hate the episode (in a good way), but promises there will be much lower points in the show.
"There's so much more that happens in that episode that is more heartbreaking than that moment, that by the time the episode's over it's almost too much. It's that intense," Nicotero said during Geeking Out. "It just keeps getting worse. It goes lower and lower and lower and lower."
Not really sure you’re making fans feel better, Nicotero. It’ll be the first time people will see a truly scared Rick Grimes. The last time we’ve seen Rick truly devastated was back in the prison when he found out his wife Lori died giving birth to Judith.
However, fans might also get to see Carl go through his own transformation. Witnessing the death of one of his friends truly changes Carl. In the comics, Carl decides to get revenge on Negan when his father refused. Negan respects Carl for taking out so many of his men with one bad eye. The two have an interesting dynamic in the comics, which interferes with Carl’s relationship with his father.
There’s also a chance Negan will kill not one, but two characters in The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere. If that’s the case, Nicotero saying the episode will be heartbreaking is an understatement.
