Asymmetrical multiplayer games continue to rise in popularity, spurred on by the success of Dead by Daylight, and more recently, The Evil Dead: The Game. However, if there’s one thing these two have in common, it’s not as accessible as Video Horror Society, the newest asymmetric horror multiplayer title from publisher and developer Hellbent Games. What sets Video Horror Society apart from the two is that it’s a free-to-play game, and players can now jump in to check the game out for themselves without needing to purchase it first. Check out the official reveal trailer below as the game is now live via early access on PC for Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Video Horror Society, much like the other games in the asymmetric multiplayer genre, pits four players against one player in a game of wits and brawn. Where The Evil Dead: The Game has Ash and his cohorts fighting against Deadites, and Dead by Daylight has Survivors from different horror franchises fighting against the most iconic horror villains from various series, Video Horror Society sports an 80s-themed flair that pits the Teens against the Monsters. It’s highly reminiscent of those sex-fueled, shlocky, B-movie horror titles that were prevalent in that decade, so of course, you get that campy horror feel as well.

At the time of its early access launch, Video Horror Society had three playable monsters, five playable teens, and three launch maps. The developers promised to continue to develop the game within the confines of the free-to-play model, assuring players that they will never have to pay even after the game’s full launch. Video Horror Society is expected to stay in early access for less than a year.

As a free-to-play game, Video Horror Society has in-game purchases. There are three Founders Packs available for purchase as of now, with Hellbent Games stating that the pricing model will vary depending on your region. You can check out the pricing for all three models via their respective pages below:

No plans for a console release have been mentioned, so for the time being, Video Horror Society is only available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
