The Unearned Hype Podcast: Episode 15 - New 2DS XL Impressions, Character Cameos And 'Guardians 2'

It’s time for another episode of The Unearned Hype Podcast!

Episode 15 is a bit longer than normal at 77 minutes, but we decided to squeeze three topics into the show this week. And we actually managed to stay on topic for most of that hour-plus recording. The show opens with Phil’s impressions of the recently announced New 2DS XL; Nintendo’s $150 bigger, slightly upgraded brother for the $99 2DS that debuted in 2013. Like many of you, we aren’t really sure why this is a thing. But Phil says it’s a pretty solid entry point for Nintendo’s portable ecosystem if you still don’t own the 3DS or 3DS XL. And don’t care about the 3D part.

We also spend some time discussing guest characters in video games. A new cross-promotion between Hi-Rez and Twitch lets Smite players put Bob Ross in the deity-inspired MOBA and Sub-Zero was recently confirmed as a downloadable character for Injustice 2. We break down why we’re fans of the former inclusion, but not the latter, and some of the other big guest appearances we’ve seen over the years. We aren’t always fans. But we’re both clearly willing to make a few exceptions for crossovers that make sense.

Last, but certainly not least, we follow-up on last week’s Marvel Cinematic Universe discussion with a spoiler-laden discussion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 . We save all the movie talk for the end of the show so it’s easy to skip if you haven’t seen the movie yet. And I even managed to slip a few more alternative facts about the cast and characters of the film into our latest episode.

We’ve included YouTube and SoundCloud archives of this week's show and we’ll continue to do so with each new episode going forward. You can also watch us record the show every week on Twitch. We usually record at 1 p.m. EST every Wednesday, barring scheduling conflicts. You can even listen to The Unearned Hype Podcast on iTunes.
