The wait is finally over and we now have a glimpse of the upcoming Uncharted movie. That’s because the official trailer arrived early today. The movie is set to be released on February 18, 2022.

While the film is indeed based on the video game of the same title, it’s actually going to serve as a prequel to the entire franchise. The cast so far includes Tom Holland (Nathan Drake), Mark Wahlberg (Victor Sullivan), Sophia Ali (Chloe Frazer), and Tati Gabrielle (Braddock). Antonio Banderas is also in the film but in a yet unnamed role.

Bringing the story to the big screen is the script written by Rafe Judkins (Chuck, Marvel’s Agents of Shield ) along with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Men in Black: International). Sitting in the director’s chair is none other than Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom, Zombieland: Double Tap).

In a statement, Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann shared that the film was made possible by the collaboration between their studio with Sony Pictures Entertainment and PlayStation Productions. He also revealed that Fleischer made the movie by making sure that it can be enjoyed by hardcore fans of the game and those who are not familiar with the series.

Talking further about the new trailer, Druckmann said that they are excited to finally show it considering the impact that the series has had.

The first game in the series was Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune released in 2007. It followed the story of treasure hunter Nathan “Nate” Drake as he searches for the lost treasure of El Dorado. Since then, many games have been added to the franchise with the latest one being Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, released in 2017. It no longer featured Drake and instead focused on Chloe Frazer.

A remastered version of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy is set to be released in 2022 under the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. The collection will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PC.

The film itself is not without problems as plans to produce one started way back in 2008. When the film development started in 2010, it was actually Wahlberg who was supposed to play Nathan Drake. Hopefully, there won’t be any big hiccups between now and until the film is released.

What about you? Excited about this one?
