Titanfall 2 is in full force at EA Play with a multiplayer demo available to try out. After getting a round of action in, I can say the new Titanfall is everything the original is and more.

While short, the demo let me play a new game mode, called Bounty Hunt. This is a points-based mode, with two teams competing against not only each other, but also against a third AI team. The AI team largely serves as fodder for the two human teams, with grunts and specters giving out small amounts of points for each kill.

The AI team really comes into play when a Bounty Titan shows up. These Titans give out large amounts of points when killed, and both teams were racing each other to give the killing blow.

I also got to try out some of the new toys in Titanfall 2. These included the excellent new grappling hook, the new weapons and of course, the new Titans. The grappling hook was a great addition, making vehicle movement for pilots even faster than before. With the grappling hook, the sense of movement felt even more liberating than the first Titanfall, an impressive achievement.

As for the new weapons, nothing stood out too much as an amazing new addition. There's a new rocket launcher, new sniper rifle and some tweaked versions of guns from the original. The new and old weapons felt like they worked well together, with no overpowering new gun that will change balancing.

The two new playable Titans include Scorch and Ion. Scorch uses fire-based attacks, leaves thermite around to blow up enemies and has a flame core stomp attack that shoots out a wave of fire on the ground, wrecking everything in its path.

I didn't get as much time with Ion, the energy-based Titan. Ion uses an energy beam in its chest to blow away enemies, and has a few other tricks as well. Titans, like a pilot’s loadout, can be swapped on the fly if you find yourself not liking the machine you have chosen.

An interesting change regarding Titans: they are earned now, not given. That means if you play well, and get kills or earn points for your team, your Titan can be summoned faster. You don’t need to be in a Titan to be dominant on the field though, so don’t worry if you can’t summon your Titan as fast as others.

This is just a taste of Titanfall 2’s multiplayer. It’s been confirmed there will be six new Titans (including Scorch and Ion) as well as new game modes, pilot abilities and more. A beta has been announced for Titanfall 2, but no date has been mentioned for it. Based on the Oct. 28 release date, expect a beta some time in late September or early October.

Titanfall 2 will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One and PC (most likely via Origin, because it’s an EA game).

So what do you think? Are you excited to try out Titanfall 2 for yourself? Are you more excited for the multiplayer or single player campaign? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
