Titanfall 2, the first-person shooter from Respawn Entertainment, witnessed a stark rise in concurrent player count on Steam during its free weekend period. The fast-paced shooter that emphasizes movement at its core was released in 2016, but could not gain popularity among FPS gamers. One reason could be that Titanfall 2 was released alongside FPS giants like Call of Duty and Battlefield, which likely overshadowed the former's existence.

Fast forward to 2019 and 2020, the release of the popular battle royale, Apex Legends, brought Titanfall 2 into the limelight again. Fans who enjoyed the fast-paced hero-based looter shooter, went back to see what the other game is all about and needless to say, Titanfall 2 started receiving the love it deserved way after its launch.

Recently, Respawn also released a new Apex Legends' Valkyrie trailer, showing the new Legend making her way to the outlands to participate in the Apex games. The trailer revealed that Valkyrie uses a similar tech as seen on one of Titanfall 2's popular titans, Northstar. Interestingly, Respawn also named the trailer after this titan.

In the trailer, it was revealed that Valkyrie is the daughter of Viper from Titanfall 2, an antagonist that players defeat in the game. Valkyrie is stepping into the Apex games to avenge her father. All of this intriguing lore and story-telling has definitely sparked interest among fans regarding Titanfall 2, and it is quite evident from Steam Charts that the game soared in the concurrent player count from May 1 to 2.

My friend and I often jump into Titanfall 2 lobbies to chill out and we have often discussed that the game could benefit a lot in player count if it went free. Probably now, even Respawn could have seen that many players are interested in playing the game.

Titanfall 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Also, Respawn Entertainment's battle royale, Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also be receiving a mobile version sometime in the future.
