Publisher Square Enix has recently announced in a livestream that the company will be adding Final Fantasy VII protagonist Tifa Lockhart to Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s roster.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a mixture of your run of the mill fighting game married with Final Fantasy RPG elements. A 3v3 brawler that provides an excellent online experience, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was originally launched in 2015 for the Japanese arcade market. A PS4 version was developed and released internationally in January 2018 (January 11 in Japan, January 30 worldwide) and it received a free-to-play version for the PS4 and PC this past March 12.
Tifa Lockhart will be joining her childhood friend from Final Fantasy VII, Cloud Strife, in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. In a joint livestream between publisher Square Enix and developer Team Ninja, the developers showcased Tifa’s gameplay in action against villain Sephiroth. The gameplay expounded on her combat class as a speed-type fighter, as well as cosmetic options for those looking to buy the DLC. She dons her Final Fantasy VII original outfit as well as the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children version (both are available in a number of different color schemes). It’s also worth noting that this Tifa redesign is somehow a bit different from her appearance in the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, although that can be attributed to different developers.
Criticisms of a cluttered and flimsy story, very unfriendly gameplay for single-player fans, and an unrefined online experience has not prevented Team Ninja, developer for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, from improving and adding more content to the action-RPG fighting game. Despite its less than favorable critical reception upon its initial launch for the PS4 in 2018, the developers have added DLC characters such as Vayne from Final Fantasy XII, Locke from Final Fantasy VI, Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII, Kam'lanaut from Final Fantasy XI, Yuna from Final Fantasy X, Snow from Final Fantasy XIII, and Zenos from Final Fantasy XIV.
Tifa Lockhart will be available for all your brawling needs on July 3 in Japan. No confirmation has been made by Square Enix if this will be the same release date internationally.
