Is Tencent finally going to dig deeper into mobile gaming? The company might be planning on making its very own gaming phone.

The Chinese company is behind a lot of big names. They own not only video games like Honor or Kings, the world’s most popular and highest-grossing game of all time by the year 2017, but also a film distribution company, China’s largest online anime platform, QQ music and JOOX. They also hold a 40% stake in Epic Games, the developer of an all-time-favorite game, Fortnite.

According to an anonymous source of Chinese outlet 36KR (via GSMArena), Tencent is currently communicating with the manufacturers of Asus ROG phone, Razer phone 2, Xiaomi Black Shark 2 and Wentai, an original design manufacturer in China, about the possibility of making a gaming phone.

There are two possibilities as to what brand the future gaming phone will take on. First, it can be dual-branded with its manufacturer that has already launched a gaming phone. The features will probably follow the existing gaming phones if Tencent does choose to collaborate with any of the aforementioned manufacturers. This likely would mean a Snapdragon chipset, performance mode, and large battery capacity. This might give them a hard time though since we all know that a gaming phone is not that easy to produce, especially if its your first time dipping into it.

The Tencent gaming phone is most likely going to use a Qualcom Snapdragon chipset according to some speculations. This is one of the most powerful chipsets on the market right now, and we expect nothing less from Tencent.

Tencent has a lot of services and games that are only available in China, and thus it is highly likely that the gaming phone cannot be released in Western countries if the company decides to launch it as an individual brand. However, nothing is confirmed for now. All we have are speculations and rumors until Tencent formally releases a statement, and we’re all expecting to hear from them soon. Stay tuned for other news once it breaks.
