Tekken X Street Fighter is dead, or is it? Earlier reports about the game’s development have stated that the project has been scrapped, but the game’s producer clarified that he was misquoted and the project was not canceled at all.

Street Fighter and Tekken are very huge fighting game franchises, so when Capcom and Bandai Namco announced that these behemoths will get crossovers, fans were very excited.

Tekken X Street Fighter was announced 11 years ago during the San Diego Comic-Con, but the first crossover, Street Fighter X Tekken, was released back in 2012.

Since then, fans were eagerly waiting for the launch of Tekken X Street Fighter because its counterpart uses 2D fighting game mechanics, while this title is supposed to use the 3D engine à la Tekken.

In a recent video, Tekken game producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the development of the game came to a halt. He added that they were about 30% done and that some character models were already completed.

In light of his remarks, fans were saddened by this news. However, Harada went to social media to clarify things.

Taken Out of Context

Harada said in a TwitLonger post that some of the things he said on the talk show were actually mistranslated.

At around 21 minutes and 25 seconds of the video, the game producer said “ima tomete masuyo,” which means that the game is currently in a pending state. He added that the phrase is also similar to “pause”, so 30% of the game was already completed, though its development has been stopped for the time being.

He went on to say that “Okura-iri” was translated to “Project Died” but he later clarified that he meant it as, “be shelved” or “put in storage.”

In the same post, Harada explained that the game is put on indefinite hiatus due to contractual agreements between Capcom and Bandai Namco.

Furthermore, both companies are busy with other projects like post-launch content for Monster Hunter and Resident Evil: Village. Plans for DLCs are rolling this year.

And since the game producer was promoted to a higher position, he has more responsibilities now than ever.

To be clear, Tekken X Street Fighter’s development is just put on hold and will definitely continue in the future. So, fans can rest easy knowing that the game is not dead at all.

What do you think about Harada’s statements?
