Despite the long wait for the next game to follow "GTA V," "Grand Theft Auto VI's" second trailer announced a delay to 2026. However, while many are fearing a second delay for "GTA VI," Take-Two Interactive's CEO has shared his insights about why the game would be set to hit its target of releasing in May next year.

The many doubts of "Grand Theft Auto" fans and skepticism from the gaming industry are rooted in the fact that game releases may sweep the rugs from under them, as many developers previously did.

Typically, developers end up asking for extra time to polish games and work to deliver the "ideal" version for release.

Take-Two CEO: 'GTA VI' Is Set For 2026 Release

In a recent interview with IGN, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed that delaying releases has been a "pain" for him, and it is not something he wants to do. However, he said it is something he is willing to do to ensure that they can deliver the best experience for fans.

However, with regard to the worries regarding "Grand Theft Auto VI's" new May 2026 release date, Zelnick believes that Rockstar Games is capable of meeting the timeline it claimed in the latest trailer.

Zelnick said that Rockstar Games has a knack for setting specific release dates and being able to meet them come this time, and this is already the case for "Grand Theft Auto VI" in its recent trailer. Before this, it is important to note that Rockstar Games only shared a general release window for the game from Trailer 1 that was released way back in December 2023.

Before, Rockstar Games only shared a possible schedule for the game, which pointed to fall 2025, but since it was not yet a concrete release date, it could potentially change, which it did.

Rockstar Games to Hit May Target For 'GTA VI'

With that, it is somehow a guarantee from the Take-Two Interactive CEO himself that Rockstar Games is already solid in hitting its target release date for "Grand Theft Auto VI" come May 26, 2026.

This is also as clear as Rockstar Games could be, particularly as it specified the May 26 date, which is quite uncommon for a release that is one year away.

Fans are indeed waiting for a long time for "GTA VI's" release date, but Zelnick claims that it is only a mere 6-month wait from the original planned release schedule. With this, it was revealed that Rockstar Games originally planned to debut "Grand Theft Auto VI" by November 2025 but had to delay it to May 2026.

According to Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games is a "perfectionist" regarding its releases, with the company asking for more time to polish and work on "GTA VI," hence its six-month delay.
