While Focus Home Interactive did not have that big of a presence at this year’s E3, they did show off some trailers for some of their upcoming titles. We saw the first trailer drop for Spiders’ GreedFall. Now, we have Deck13 Interactive’s sequel to their action RPG, The Surge 2.

Like GreedFall, however, it would seem that Focus Home Interactive has decided that the trailer will just be cinematic in nature. While we did get to see gameplay footage already, courtesy of an exclusive from Rock Paper Shotgun, I would’ve hoped for more in-game footage to be shown, instead of cinematic footage that does not actually represent any part of the game you’ll play. In any case, let’s take a look at this cinematic trailer down below.

The trailer kicks off with presumably your character in a desolate wasteland, about to head into a nearby settlement. There’s also this hallucination of a girl that’s following him, right up to when he reaches said settlement. I don’t know if this will be in-game or not, but if it is, and we get NPCs, then it would actually be a welcome addition. The Surge’s world felt very empty at times, and not empty in a good way that’s meant to evoke loneliness, but just really empty. The addition of settlements like this in the game should bring about some added depth to the game, be it for story or gameplay reasons, offering some respite for the journeys you will take.

Your character then sees the hallucination and chases after it, only to find himself blocked by three cybernetically enhanced enemies, asking him if he’s a “believer.” This leads me to believe that there will be different factions in the game, some of them even belonging to cults such as these guys. We then see a cool cinematic sequence which would not be possible in-game, followed by the hallucination pointing out that the battle just started, as one of those huge spider mech monsters joins the fray.

The Surge 2 will be released on September 24 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
