Do a barrel roll!

Europeans will be able to play the classic Star Fox 64 on the Wii U starting March 24. Nintendo of Europe’s Twitter account broke the news that the classic space shooter will be available for purchase for the Wii U’s virtual console. The game will be 50 percent off until April 21 when the next Star Fox game, Star Fox Zero , is released. It’s still unclear whether other regions will also get the game.

Star Fox 64 came out in 1997 and has only been rereleased once, for the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS version updated the game, bringing the Nintendo 64 classic to a modern audience. The N64 Star Fox revolutionized the 2D/3D shooter, allowing players to immerse themselves in the world, flying in high-stakes aerial fights that even George Lucas would enjoy.

This is Nintendo’s attempt to try and remind people that Star Fox was once an amazing franchise, one without dinosaurs or weird furry love interests. Star Fox: Assault still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even though it came out over a decade ago on the GameCube. Fox has been relatively absent from games outside of Smash Brothers, with his last original game, Star Fox Zero, coming out on the Nintendo DS in 2005.

I look forward to yelling at Slippy to shut up, just like I did when I was a kid.
