Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is an alternate universe version of the original Final Fantasy. It's a dark fantasy interpretation where a group of people coming from another world is drawn to it. The main character is Jack Garland, who's consumed with a need to destroy Chaos. Joining him are two companions Ash and Jed.

The game has players explore various environments and fight against monsters of the Final Fantasy franchise. Combat happens in real-time with Jack having access to physical and magical attacks while being able to switch between two assigned jobs. Enemies have a “break gauge” and once it's depleted, Jack can do a finishing blow that crystallizes the enemy. This allows Jack to harvest them and restore a portion of his magic meter.
