State of Decay fans finally got a look at the sequel they’ve been waiting on since the beloved zombie survival series shambled onto PC and Xbox 360 in 2013. The footage shown during Microsoft’s E3 Briefing suggests Undead Labs still has quite a bit of work to complete before State of Decay 2 is ready for public consumption. But some of the most important additions to the upcoming sequel, like cooperative multiplayer, are already on display in the first State of Decay 2 gameplay trailer.

The five-minute clip shown on Sunday didn’t give us much information about the settings -- yes, there will be multiple maps again in the sequel -- we’ll get to explore and settle when State of Decay 2 debuts. But fans got an early look at what multiplayer will bring to the State of Decay experience, and the massive number of zombies that Undead Labs is preparing to throw at us in the upcoming sequel. Fortunately, the State of Decay community will have some new tools at its disposal. New skills and zombie executions, too.

The trailer suggests State of Decay 2 will either include an upgrade path for vehicles or give players the chance to retrieve vehicles that have been modified to improve the driver’s chances of surviving an unexpected encounter. We also learned there’s a cure for the zombie plague that left the world in such disrepair, though it’s not clear whether that cure is temporary or permanent. But you’ll have to decide who does (or doesn’t) get access to the drug when supplies run thin. We also saw new zombie executions, including a pretty vicious takedown of a massive enemy that looks more like the Blob than anything we saw in the last State of Decay.

For an early (and we mean early) look at State of Decay 2 , take a few minutes to watch the gameplay trailer from this year’s Microsoft E3 Briefing. Then head down to the comments and let us know what change you’re hoping to see in State of Decay 2 at launch.

State of Decay 2 is in development for PC and Xbox One. There’s no timeline for the game’s debut.
