Star Wars Battlefront 2 won't have a season pass EA

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will have console-exclusive content. There will also be no season pass. This news comes after DICE released the debut trailer, which can be watched above.

The goal for removing season passes is to not fragment the community across map packs. "We don’t have a season pass," Bernd Diemer, creative director on Battlefront 2 at DICE, told Mashable. "When we looked at the way Battlefront had evolved over its lifetime, with the DLC and everything, we decided, 'You know what? For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing. We need to [take it apart] and come up with something better."

"I cannot talk about the specifics of this, but we have something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community," Diemer said.

That being said, Mashable also reports an EA representative followed up on these statements by saying the company wasn’t ready to confirm a lack of a season pass. This likely means EA hasn’t finalized plans on what will replace the season pass, but it is possible EA will override what Diemer is saying and reinstate a pass.

We do know console gamers will get a little bit more than PC gamers in Battlefront 2. According to Microsoft's Xbox Wire, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will include a two-player split-screen co-op mode on PS4 and Xbox One. This is probably like the horde mode found in the first Battlefront , so get excited if you were a fan of that last time.

As for other exclusives, those who pre-order can get The Last Jedi-themed looks for Kylo Ren and Rey, as well as “Epic ability modifiers” for Rey, Kylo Ren, the Millennium Falcon and a First Order hero ship. It isn’t clear what exactly epic ability modifiers are, but it is mentioned they grant you the “power to change the course of battle.”

Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17.

So what do you think? Are you excited to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 knowing the community will not get fractured by DLC? Will you be pre-ordering a copy for yourself? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
