Splitgate: New Update Adds Ranked 2v2 Combat

A new update for Splitgate was released recently and it added a Ranked 2v2 PvP mode, as well as some minor bug fixes and server capacity improvements.

The addition of a 2v2 Ranked mode will help you find a match faster than before. The Halo-Portal hybrid also has other fun modes, such as 3v3 Takedown and 4v4 Ranked.

The update also added server capacity improvements. This likely implies that more people can log into the game without running into any connectivity issues.

While developer 1047 Games has made huge strides to improve the game, some people would like the studio to add certain features.

User @WestlyArts asked if there would be an update where they can block or ban toxic players from the game.

Another user said that the devs should focus on adding more weapons. In a follow-up tweet, they’ve said that the developers should also think about weapon balance by nerfing the plasma rifle as it has become quite potent at almost any range.

Beta Status Indefinitely

In other news, Ian Proulx, Studio CEO at 1047 Games, said the game will be in open beta status “in the foreseeable future.”

Ever since the game’s open beta was launched, it has been downloaded more than 10 million times.

In addition, the game’s concurrent player count grew exponentially from 4,000 to 175,000 in just a few weeks.

With such an unusual but meteoric rise to fame, it is no wonder that the studio had to improve its server capacity to meet the demand.

Proulx said that they are facing issues with the scalability of the game’s backend. He added that the problems are far more complex than just increasing server capacity.

"We are focused on keeping the game stable for fans, and iterating on the game’s concurrent capacity in order to minimize player wait times,” Proulx said.

It is unclear when Splitgate will fully launch as the massive and sudden popularity of the game has proven quite a challenge for the studio.

That said, games staying in open beta for a long time is nothing new. Fortnite was in open beta status for more than two years before Epic Games fully launched it.

Hopefully, the devs will ensure that everything is set before they finally release the game.

Splitgate is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
