We may be closer to playing games across platforms sooner than we think. On Monday, Microsoft announced it wants to allow Xbox One gamers to play against PC and PS4 users. The first game Microsoft is pushing across all its platforms is Rocket League, hoping other developers and companies will join them.

The day after, Sony released a statement to Gamespot saying, “We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play."

Sony goes on to mention, “PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002.” Sony's response may have an undeniable corporate slant, but at least they didn’t ignore the idea or shut it out entirely.

This is great news for anyone who's felt left out among friends who are console-only gamers. I would love to be able to play Grand Theft Auto Online with my buddies, but I’m a member of the PC master race and won’t sully myself with such hogwash don’t have time to play games across all systems.
