Beyond Skyrim is an ambitious Mod project to eventually update and import the entirety of the Cyrodiil provence from Oblivion into Skyrim. Instead of biting off more than they can chew and never releasing any content, modders are tackling one Cyrodiil region at a time, adding them piecemeal, and they’re just released the first region.

Bruma, the northernmost region of Cyrodiil is now available to play in Skyrim. Burma is a fitting city to add first since it both shares a long border with the Skyrim province and has similar topography to Skyrim, snowy and mountainous. You can go to Bruma 1.1 to download the area, but be aware that you need the base game of Skyrim plus all the DLC for it to work. Bruma was my favorite city in Oblivion and the beautiful Cloud Ruler Temple was my favorite place in the game, so I’m excited to revisit. The mod also goes much farther than updated graphics, since Skyrim is set two hundred years after Oblivion, you can see how the region has changed in the time between the games. They’ve also filled the area with new quests and dungeons and according to the Beyond Skyrim team, the mod is larger and more dense than Bethesda’s own Dragonborn DLC.

Here’s the featurelist from the modders themselves:

  • The city of Bruma, reimagined and recreated from scratch in exhaustive detail, containing over 70 residents, each with their own unique dialogue, stories and routines

  • A fully-explorable County Bruma, larger in size and scope than the Dragonborn DLC, packed to the brim with new dungeons, points of interest and secrets - brought to life with more custom art assets than any comparable Skyrim mod

  • All-new Cyrodilic weapons and armor

  • Seamless integration with the base game - cross the border with your existing character or start a new one

  • Innumerable all-new quests and storylines

  • Over 24,000 lines of high-quality voiceover from a professional and semi-professional cast whose combined credits include Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Apotheon and Heroes of Newerth

  • Over three hours of original music

It's exciting to see large scale mod content like this be released. The similarly ambitious ‘Skywind’ project to update the region from Morrowind into Skyrim has long been in development with nothing being released, possibly because they have a different philosophy than the one-region-at-a-time approach Beyond Skyrim is taking. Hopefully at some point they can join forces to give us all three regions in one game. Let me know if you have any news on Skywind, I’ll be up at Cloud Ruler Temple.
