Shaq Fu Is Back, And We've Reached Peak Ironic Nostalgia

No Shaq! That's not how we treat people! Bad Shaq!

Shaq Fu is a terrible game. Even if you put on the rosiest tinted glasses ever, Shaq Fu is still a steaming turd. It’s barely playable, looks awful and just shouldn’t exist. So guess which game is getting a reboot this spring? You know it’s Shaq Fu, baby!

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn brings Shaquille O'Neal back to game consoles, and not in a sports game. Like the last outing, A Legend Reborn will see the former basketball pro showing off his mythical kung fu skills while fighting “the hordes of hell and Hollywood.”

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn isn’t a simple remake, it’s an entire reimagining. Based on the footage seen in the trailer above, A Legend Reborn will actually be a side-scrolling beat-em-up instead of the original 2D fighter. While I’m not terribly excited about the prospect of a new Shaq Fu game, at least the developers are trying something new instead of doubling down on what was a horrid game (have I made the point clear that the original Shaq Fu sucks yet?)

Also, it sounds like developer Saber Interactive is in on the joke. The trailer mentions that Shaq Fu is a terrible game, and it sounds like the plot to A Legend Reborn is about redemption from the stink of the original.

“We know diehard fans have been waiting eagerly to experience the hard-hitting action of this new take on Shaq Fu, and we’re excited to team up with Wired Productions to get the game physically into the hands of players this spring,” Saber CEO Matt Karch said in a press statement.

If you’re a Nintendo Switch owner who purchased a copy of NBA Playgrounds prior to June 10, 2017, you’re in “luck.” You’ll receive a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn whether you want it or not! More details on the free game distribution will be announced at a later date. Everyone else will have to pony up the big bucks to experience “Big Daddy O” and “Big Diesel” (two of Shaq’s kung fu alter egos).

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn releases for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch this Spring.

So what do you think? Are you going to check out Shaq’s return to gaming with Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn? Have you been cheated out of entertainment by Shaquille O’Neal one too many times now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
