'Serious Sam: Shatterverse' Unveils 5-Player Co-op
The latest game in the franchise, "Serious Sam: Shatterverse," has been revealed by its developers in the latest Xbox Partner Preview showcase, featuring a new format of 5-player co-op multiplayer.
Sam "Serious" Stone embarks on another journey against the iconic antagonist of the franchise, but this time, the character enlists the help of the other Sams to take down the villains and evil forces along the way until they reach Mental.
The trailer shows five alternate versions of the main character, Sam, jumping through dimensions and joining forces to take down Mental.
This new "Serious Sam: Shatterverse" game is developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by Devolver Digital, a game company that has published all the games in the franchise since 2011.
The game's original developer, Croteam, did not return for this game, maintaining their work on all mainline installments.
What to Expect From New 'Serious Sam'
As shown in the trailer, "Serious Sam: Shatterverse" now involves getting help from four identical versions of Sam to defeat the recurring villain of the franchise.
However, it is not only Mental and Serious Sam that are returning to the game. Several locations from past games are returning to this new game alongside new maps to explore. Old and new faces of opponents will also make their way to the new game.
New rougelite elements, shooting mechanics, movement upgrades, and boss fights have also been introduced in the trailer.
"Serious Sam: Shatterverse" is coming to the Xbox Series S and X, and PCs this year, but no specific release dates have been revealed yet.
