Bandai Namco announced the upcoming action RPG Sand Land, set for release on Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series x/S. The game is based on the manga by Akira Toriyama, the same person who created Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball. No release date has been revealed though.
The game is set in a desert world where humans and demons have been suffering from an extreme water shortage. Players get to follow the adventures of three characters as they search for the Legendary Spring hidden in the desert. These three are:
- Beelzebub
- Calling himself a "super evil fiend", he actually has a pure heart like a little boy.
- He possesses superhuman strength and telepathic abilities.
- Rao
- A small-town sheriff.
- Seeks the help of demons to save all of Sand Land from the water shortage.
- Thief
- A wise old demon with thieving abilities who also accompanies Beelzebub and Rao on their adventure.
You actually take on the role of Beelzebub and get to explore the vast world accompanied by his unlikely group of demons and humans. You can travel on foot or via different vehicles. Along the way, you'll meet helpful characters along with many dangers while learning more about the secrets that Sand Land hides. By the way, the character and vehicular combat plays a big role in the game's action.
In Sand Land, you can access various customizable vehicles and equip loadouts. These should help you travel across the desert, overcome obstacles, and take on different enemies.
An Adventure in the Desert
Sand Land was a manga created by Akira Toriyama and released in 2000. Despite critical acclaim, the manga itself only had 14 chapters. It was in December 2022 when Bandai Namco revealed the development of the "Sand Land" Project.
Later in the same month, it was announced that the project would involve different partners to come up with various content to bring the classic manga to other media. It would start with an anime being co-produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks' Sunrise Studio, Kamikaze Douga Co., Ltd., and ANIMA Inc. This anime is expected to be released in August 2023.
