Sackboy: A Big Adventure To Introduce Online Multiplayer Later This Year

A bit of bad news.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure announced that developer Sumo Digital is going to delay the full release of its online multiplayer functionality. Instead of being released at launch, Sackboy's online multiplayer is going to arrive by the end of 2020 through a patch.

The patch also includes:

  • Cross-generation multiplayer where PS4 and PS5 users can play together.
  • Game save transfers from PS4 to PS5.

Sumo Digital Design Director Ned Waterhouse said in a post that they have been working hard to make sure that online is going to offer the best experience for players and that they “need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family.”

Waterhouse went on to say that they understand it’s going to be a bit of a disappointment, especially to those who have been looking forward to the feature, and that they “appreciate the patience.”

While the online feature won’t be available at launch, Sackboy is still set to offer an offline couch co-op party play mode. This mode allows two to four player parties to join up together and play through the entire game, even the unmissable co-op only levels.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is part of the LittleBigPlanet franchise. The core gameplay mechanics of the series focus on what developer Media Molecule calls “Play, Create, Share.” In this latest addition to the franchise, players follow Sackboy. However, unlike the other LittleBigPlanet games, this one offers 3D platforming rather than 2.5D.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is set to be released worldwide for the PlayStation 4 on November 12. The PlayStation 5 version is scheduled to launched in North America on November 12 and worldwide on November 19. The PS5 version is offered at $59.99.

PS5 Launch

If you’ve been living under a rock, the PlayStation 5 is set to be released this Thursday in certain key markets. The global rollout is then going to be next week on November 19. The PS5 Digital Edition comes with a $399.99 price tag, while the standard PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive is available for $499.99. Customers have the option to choose between the two PS5 consoles at launch. However, whichever version is chosen, customers get to enjoy the same next-gen gaming experiences.
