Rune Factory 4 Special is officially available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It’s even playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This version also comes with the Another Episode DLC for free.

This critically-acclaimed remaster is available digitally for $29.99. PlayStation Plus members can buy it at a 10% discount until December 20.

Rune Factory 4 Special is a game that combines farming, life simulation, and RPG action. The game starts with a young man or woman falling from an airship and landing in a town called Selphia. For some reason, the main character is appointed as a prince or princess by the local regent and tasked with protecting the town and improving the lives of everyone. Royal duties include handing out orders to bring the town to prosperity like helping the townsfolk or raising crops.

Should there be a need to take on a dungeon, not to worry since players have access to a wide range of weapons and magic. In addition, there are companions and friendly monsters that can join and help players. Players can also interact with the townsfolk and choose from 12 potential suitors that they can woo and even marry.

One of the new features that longtime players, and even new ones, can expect is the extra content known as “Newly Mode.” These are self-contained adventures that become available when players decide to marry an eligible candidate. Those looking for a challenge can play the game on the “Hell” difficulty. It also has a new opening theme.

As mentioned, this new version comes with a new DLC for free. Titled Another Episode, it adds a series of illustrated storybook-style episodes, which is narrated by the 12 marriage candidates and Selphia’s lovable guardian dragon Ventuswill.

Despite the title, Rune Factory 4 Special is actually the sixth game in the Rune Factory franchise. It was released on Nintendo 3DS in North America in 2013. This enhanced version was launched on Nintendo Switch in February 2020.
