Rumor: The Witcher 3 Is Making Its Way To Nintendo Switch

You need to ask Geralt for a ton of salt for this one.

It’s time to break out those oversized salt-shakers again, as one of the biggest rumors for an upcoming port to the Nintendo Switch just materialized again – this time with some respectably convincing images as proof.

According to a post on ResetEra, CD Projekt RED’s action adventure masterpiece The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for a Nintendo Switch release in September. The post and rumor are accompanied by a Chinese listing and newsfeed, stating that according to a “reliable source from distributor, Witcher 3 GOTY edition is coming to Switch in September.” There’s also an included Chinese localization for the supposed Asian version. You can find the included picture below.

While this rumor has popped up on the net some time ago, it’s important to mention that it wasn’t accompanied by supposed sources then. It is therefore very interesting to see how this will play out as far as rumors go, and a Switch port for the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a very big deal in terms of gaming on the platform.

The poster then goes on to state that by checking Taobao, which is a shopping site under Alibaba, multiple sellers have already announced listings for the game. While I personally can’t speak for the authenticity of the listings, you can check it out for yourself by going to the site and copy-pasting the following: 巫 师 3ns. The poster has also provided a screenshot for this, which you can view below.

As exciting as this news may be, it’s important to take this all in with a grain of salt as Chinese marketing isn’t really a ‘what you see is what you get’ type of deal. If the rumors are indeed true, there’s still the problems of how exactly a port like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to work. Not counting the obviously high systems requirements for CD Projekt RED’s title, we still need to account for who is developing the port and how they plan to do it. At the moment, it is in the realm of impossibility to port something like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to the Nintendo Switch, mostly because of severe hardware restrictions.

That said, in the case that this rumor is indeed true, the likelier scenario is that the title will be available to stream, and not as an actual downloadable title. There are a few games overseas where this is possible, like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Resident Evil 7 in Japan, two titles which you can stream on the Nintendo Switch, provided your ISP is up to par, of course.

Expect more from us as this possible rumor develops.
