Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe is now accepting Pre-registrations for the closed beta test scheduled for March. However, this is only available for Android devices as of right now. Not to worry, as the scheduled summer 2020 release is going to be available for both Android and iOS.
For those new to the series, Romancing SaGa is the fourth title in the SaGa series. Since its release back in 1992, there have been different games all the way until SaGa: Grace Scarlet in 2018. However for Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe the story is set three centuries after the events of Romancing SaGa 3. While it does see the return of many familiar characters in the franchise, it also offers an original story.
With the recent worldwide release of Romancing SaGa 3 back in November 2019, there are high expectations that Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe is going to serve as a comeback for the series.
The SaGa role-playing game series had its first game released to the Game Boy back in 1989. It was created by Akitoshi Kawazu, known for his role in helping develop Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2. From Game Boy, it later went on to be released to other platforms.
Considering that SaGa shares its beginnings with Final Fantasy, it's not surprising to know that the franchise makes use of the same gameplay mechanics like player choice and branching storylines. A remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3 was released last November. The game has players choose from eight characters, with additional characters available throughout the game.
While the gameplay was indeed similar to others in the RPG genre, it offered its own unique twists. For example, rather than simply leveling up, the stats of the characters increased based on what their participation was during a battle. Another mechanic introduced is that even during battle, characters have a chance to learn new techniques that can turn the tide in their favor.
Upon release, the remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3 went on to become one of Steam's best-selling new releases for November 2019.
An enhanced version of SaGa Scarlet Grace, titled SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, was released worldwide in December 2019.
