Developer Psyonix announced a set of brand new "Velocity Crates" will be coming to Rocket League on Monday, Dec. 4. In addition to a swath of new gear, the game will see the introduction of the Imperator DT5 Battle-Car, a gorgeous new '80s-themed vehicle that looks as though it was ripped straight out of the decade's hottest action flick.

The Velocity Crates themselves will house six new Decals as well as Engine Audio, which you can use on the other Battle-Cars you own. Some will come packed with new wheels, banners, goal explosions, and other cool additions all based on the same 1980s aesthetic the Imperator DT5 is rocking. If you're a fan of shiny neon colors and customization in Rocket League, you'll want to collect them all. They'll be available for everyone on Monday, so if you want to start decking out your own cars with new items, you'll want to make sure you log in and explore what's out there.

You can purchase crates in sets of 5, 10, and 20 via the in-game marketplace in Rocket League. The items you receive are classified as Rare, Very Rare, Import, Exotic, and Black Market. So yes, there’s a bit of a gamble when it comes to what goodies you’ll get for your time, but that’s the case with every loot crate-based reward system out there.

Rocket League is a vehicular soccer game where you must navigate an oversized ball with your car into your opponent's goal. It's available for all platforms, including the recently-released Nintendo Switch version. That iteration includes special Mario and Luigi-themed cars, a Samus gunship from Metroid , and special Nintendo-themed accessories.

Ever since it was released for PC and PlayStation 4 back in 2015, it's become something of a phenomenon, with a physical release in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as success in the eSports arena. It's also spawned several bits of DLC, including special Rick and Morty customization items, Gears of War and Halo -themed items, a DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future , and more. It’s a fast-paced, frenetic sport game that’s easy to start playing, but requires some skill to perfect. If you’re looking for your next professional gaming bid, you might find it in Rocket League .
