IMDb briefly listed the Rick and Morty Season 3 release date as Jan. 9, but the premiere will not be Jan. 9. Sorry.

Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland got wind of the rumored release date and took to Twitter to break some hearts, writing “As far as I know (and I would know) season three does not air Jan. 9th.”

It’s been a rollercoaster couple of weeks for people tracking possible Rick and Morty release dates, with many opportunities to get our hopes up. There was the secret Poopy Butthole GIF code. And the Reddit leaks. And the dizzying possibility of a 2016 release, after it was confirmed that the Season 3 premiere episode has been completed.

Now that we’re into 2017 and out of the 2016 premiere window mentioned by Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon (“we’re targeting around the end of this year” he told Magic City Comic Con), anything is possible. Perhaps Rick and Morty Season 3 was all just one big trick. Or maybe it’s already premiered in a number of universes parallel to ours.

Whatever the case, Rick and Morty Season 3 definitely isn’t dropping next week. In fact, it seems unlikely that we’ll see the Rick and Morty premiere this month at all. This is indeed the darkest timeline.
