Though his contempt for the stupid and weak is obvious, Rick’s relationship to powerful people is a little more complicated. Rick kicked Lucifer’s ass, enslaved his intellectual equal and out-partied a hive mind, but at least he got along with Earth’s President of the United States, Keith David.

Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon recently tweeted that Keith David’s POTUS would return.

The first appearance of Keith David as the President of the United States came in Rick and Morty Season 2’s episode “Get Schwifty,” as the Earth’s surviving musicians - Rick, Morty and Ice-T - must come up with a musical hit to avoid planetary destruction.

Awed by Rick’s scientific genius, Keith David’s President puts his complete faith in Rick. When they succeed in placating the hits-hungry Cromulons the President even laughs off Rick’s admission that he’d killed a bunch of soldiers. By the end, they seemed like best buds.

So it will be interesting to see what will happen in Rick and Morty Season 3, with the President marginalized and Rick a likely fugitive from the Galactic Federation now administering Earth’s One World government.

Will the President join Rick in rebellion, or is he content as a small functionary in a large galactic empire?

While Keith David’s return for the role has yet to be confirmed, he’s expressed interest in returning on Twitter. Unfortunately, another appearance from Reverse Giraffe seems unlikely.
