PUBG Mobile is 1 year old! PUBG Mobile

PUBG Mobile is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary this coming Wednesday. To mark the occassion, PUBG Corp. and Tencent Games will release a number of special events before March 20.

Though full details have yet to be released, a number of players who have the game installed on their smart phones may have already observed that the in-game lobby has been decorated like like a birthday celebration. On the day of the anniversary itself, there will be additional features available to players. There will even be a promotion done by an invited celebrity on the official PUBG Mobile YouTube channel.

Released in 2018, PUBG Mobile has experienced at least 200 million downloads worldwide. Estimates show that, not counting China, there are around 30 million concurrent users around the world. Since launch, the game has been nominated for and won various awards, including “Best Game” at last month's Google Play Awards. PUBG Mobile was also chosen by the 2018 Golden Joysticks as “Mobile Game of the Year.” Last November, Tencent and PUBG Corp., organized the first major international competition with the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge in Dubai. The tournament featured a $600,000 prize pool, with RRQ Athena eventually winning the tournament and taking home the top prize of $200,000.

In a press release, Tencent General Manager of Global Publishing Department Vincent Wang relayed that "[w]ords cannot express what the first year of PUBG Mobile’s release has meant to the PUBG Mobile team and, more importantly, our thriving and passionate community of players”. He added that the team is excited to show players what they have up in store for the game's second year.

PUBG Mobile is based on the online multiplayer battle royal game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or PUBG. The game allows for 100 hundred players to parachute their way to an island, look for weapons, and find a way to be the last person standing. A beta version of the game was released in early 2017 and the complete version was launched in 2018. PUBG is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

PUBG Mobile can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the iOS App Store.
