PUBG is preparing to release a new update that's going to continue vehicular hijinks in the popular Battle Royale game, as well as introducing a new tool of destruction. Update 5.2 is scheduled to give players a new spike trap along with a navigational Way Point system. There are also some balance changes coming for Vikendi. Update 5.2 is set to be launched for PC on November 20, with consoles getting the update on November 26.

Spike Trap

In Update 5.2, players should be able to get ahead of automotive assaults by deploying the new Spike Trap tool. The Spike Trap can puncture the tires of any vehicle that goes over its strip of spikes. While this item can puncture tires, it doesn't do any damage to the vehicle's overall health. In addition, the Spike Trap can only damage one vehicle, after which it disappears.

As an item, Spike Traps have the same spawn rates as other throwables across all maps. To lay a Spike Trap, all players need to do is select it and then press LMB. Note that once a Spike Trap has been laid, it can't be picked back up.

Way Point

The upcoming update is also set to introduce the new Way Point feature, which should allow players to make strategic plans on the routes they need to take. Players can place a maximum of four points per group of Way Points.

The Way Point can only be used while the map is open. To put the first point, simply press ALT+RMB. After that, just hold ALT and then click other locations in order to be able to add more points. You can release ALT in order to remove the starting point. To remove the placed Way Points, simply press ALT+Del. Note that when a new starting point is placed somewhere else, the existing Way Points all disappear.

Under the Duo/Squad Mode, whenever a teammate places Way Points, they're going to appear on the map with a Radio Message. There is, however, the option to change the settings to not display the Way Point of certain teammates using the in-game Team Management menu.

Vikendi Update

For Vikendi, PUBG cleaned the map in order to make it more appealing to Long Gun Hunters. More vehicles are set to appear on the map, though players shouldn't rely too much on them, especially with the introduction of the Spike Traps.

Specifically the changes arriving to Vikendi are:

  • Terrain
    • New roads have been added to reduce the difficulty of moving through certain snow-covered areas of Vikendi.
    • Along with the roads added, the amount of vehicles across the map have increased and locations adjusted.
    • A cold front has moved in and the river around Castle has frozen over to allow for easier navigation.
    • Located at the center of Vikendi, Mount Kreznic consists of various terrain types which are difficult to navigate due to how steep the mountain is.
      • To improve this, the overall height of the mountain has been lowered.
    • Vikendi terrain in many areas is very flat, making it difficult for players to hide or take cover when encountering enemies.
      • To improve this, PUBG added more variance to terrain height in areas across the map.
  • Towns
    • A few of Vikendi’s towns were seldom visited due to complex structures or not enough loot.
      • As such some adjustments were made to these areas:
        • Volnova has been reshaped in general. Major buildings and driving routes have been modified.
        • Item spawn counts in Peshkova have increased.
        • Garages where vehicles are spawned in Trevno have been relocated to allow for easier escape after looting.
    • Some buildings have been removed or replaced with different buildings to improve gameplay. The field of vision gained from high buildings has been adjusted through structural changes.
