For the second year in a row, The Pokémon Company is giving away a special Pokémon for the release of its new games.
With the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon , a special Rockruff will be available to anyone with the new Gen 7 games. This Rockruff is special because it will evolve into the new Dusk Form Lycanroc .
There’s no code needed to receive this special Pokémon. Trainers only need a connection to the internet. Follow these steps to receive your special Rockruff.
Select Mystery Gift on the main menu.
Select Receive Gift.
Select Get Via Internet, then Yes, and Yes again to connect to the internet.
Watch as you receive the special Rockruff.
Speak to the delivery person in any Pokémon Center to pick up Rockruff.
Be sure to save your game!
This special Rockruff comes at Level 10 and holding a Focus Band. It knows the moves Happy Hour, and a unique fang move depending on your version of the game. If you send Rockruff to Ultra Sun , it’ll know Fire Fang. If it goes to Ultra Moon, it’ll know Thunder Fang. These attacks are Egg Moves for the Rockruff line, so The Pokémon Company are saving you some trouble of breeding these moves onto this Pokémon.
This Rockruff’s Nature and IVs aren’t set either, so you can soft reset the Pokémon until you receive the desired Nature. We recommend either Jolly or Adamant Nature and perfect IVs in Speed and Attack, if possible.
To evolve it into the Dusk Form Lycanroc, be sure to level it up between the times of 5 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. local time if you have Ultra Sun and between 5 and 5:59 a.m. if you have Ultra Moon.
Pokémon Sun and Moon saw the distribution of two special Pokémonduring its release. The special Munchlax holding the Snorlaxium-Z and the Ash-Greninja were both distributed for the new games. While Munchlax was sent over using the same Mystery Gift route, trainers had to download and play through the Sun and Moon demo to receive the Ash-Greninja.
