Pokémon Sun and Moon are now available (unless you’re in Europe, sorry) and the first decision every trainer needs to make, even before choosing a starter, is which version to buy.

Of course, there are those who will purchase both versions to get everything from those games, but some don’t have that luxury and others haven’t decided which game to choose.

With every generation, each version of Pokémon offers version-exclusive Pokémon that influences trading between two players. But with Sun and Moon , there are also some other minor differences that can influence your decision.

DAY AND NIGHT

The first big change is the day and night cycle in Sun and Moon. Pokémon Sun will follow the internal clock in your Nintendo 3DS while Moon will off by 12 hours.

So when it’s daytime outside, your Pokémon Moon version will show that it’s nighttime. This doesn’t really affect the events of the story, but certain Pokémon evolve only at day or night so you’ll have to schedule your playing time carefully in both versions, but especially with Moon.

Again, the story of Pokémon Sun and Moon doesn’t change within either version but some cutscenes do change. It’s been shown in previous trailers that which Ultra Beasts show up in certain cutscenes differ by version, but that’s really all that changes outside the story behind the Main Legendary Pokémon.

There are also some Totem Pokémon that differ with the version.

And that leads us to the version-exclusive Pokémon.

VERSION-EXCLUSIVE POKEMON

As mentioned before, each version of Pokémon has their own set of pocket monsters that can only be found in that game. These version-exclusive Pokémon can only be obtained by trading with a trainer that has the opposite version you own.

Here’s a list of Pokémon found in each version.
