Guess who's joining the battle?

Pokémon Masters revealed that none other than Professor Oak is joining the battle as a Pokémon Trainer. Fans of the franchise know that while he generally serves as mentor to young trainers and conducts research on Pokémon, he was once a trainer himself. However this is the first time in a Pokémon game that he is joining the fight. Making it even more exciting is that Professor Oak has Mew for his partner.

In order to get access to both Professor Oak and Mew, here are some details to keep in mind:

  • The pair are available from February 13 to March 15.
  • To get the pair, you need to have Main Story Chapter 1 completed.
  • To take on special missions, you must have completed Main Story Chapter 2 - Defeat Team Break.
    • Special missions let you receive custom items that can help strengthen the pair.
  • To unlock the Sync Grid feature, you need to have Main Story Chapter 11 - Alola's Rising Stars: Part 2 finished.
  • All mission completion rewards need to be claimed within three days after the mission period has ended.

It's not all battles though, especially if you're wondering how these two ended up together. Experience their Sync Pair Story and learn more about how they met and became a sync pair.

Professor Oak is not the only new trainer arriving as the champion of the Hoenn Region, Steven, also makes an appearance with his Steel-type Pokémon Metagross. Players can learn more about this pair through the in-game story event aptly titled The Strongest There Is. Players need to have Chapter 1 of the Main Story completed in order to access this trainer. Like Professor Oak, Steven is available until March 16. Like with some other trainers, this sync pair allows Metagross to change into Mega Metagross form after completing a sync move.
