"Pokémon Go" still has a lot in store for trainers before the biggest holiday, with the Winter Holiday Part 2 event now dropping its latest content alongside a new Pokémon to catch before the year ends.
'Pokémon Go' Winter Holiday Part 2: New Pokémon
The Pokémon Go Team announced the upcoming experiences under the "Winter Holiday Part 2" festivities, which unveil a brand-new Pokémon to catch during the holiday season in the upcoming week.
The new Pokémon in question is Rolycoly, a Generation VIII Pokémon from the Galar region.
According to the team, the Winter Holiday Part 2 event will take place this Wednesday, December 24, at 10:00 a.m. until Monday, December 29, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
This event will feature increased spawns of Ice-type Pokémon, as well as creatures that have special winter or Christmas costumes throughout the event in celebration of the holidays.
However, it is important to note that according to the team, Rolycoly will be listed as a Pokémon "you might even encounter," which means that the Rock type is set to be limited or rare in the wild.
That said, the event announcement also revealed that Rolycoly will appear in one-star raids throughout the game, and this is the only guaranteed encounter for the Galarian Rock-type Pokémon.
One-star raids are typically manageable for a solo player to do, and defeating the raid boss Rolycoly allows it to be up for grabs, with trainers catching it also guaranteeing the standard three candies that come alongside it.
What to Expect from the New Winter Event?
Alongside Rolycoly, its two other evolutions are also heading to "Pokémon Go" as part of the Winter Holiday Part 2. This includes Carkol and Coalossal, both of which are also Rock-type Pokémon.
To get the evolutions of Rolycoly, players only need to collect enough candies to evolve into these forms, and this means that trainers need to grind the catching and raids they participate in.
Rolycoly evolves into Carkol with 25 Rolycoly candies, and Carkol evolves into Coalossal with 100 Rolycoly candies, all of which are standard processes in the game and require no special conditions for the evolution.
Most of the special event Pokémon to catch in the game are Ice-types, with the likes of Galarian Darumaka, Bergmite, Cetoddle, and more up for grabs. That said, alongside Rolycoly, the Electric/Fairy-type mouse Dedenne is also available but at a low chance of spawning.
Trainers may also encounter a Shiny Stantler wearing a holiday-themed attire, as well as a Shiny Dedenne, which is also in a holiday costume.
Catching the event Pokémon guarantees special items for users as well, including the likes of Fast TMs, Charged TMs, Silver Pinap Berries, Golden Razz Berries, and Rare Candy.
