The next "Pokémon" game, or the Generation 10 release, is at the center of a new rumor suggesting that another combat revamp is coming for the trainer battles players are set to experience.

This follows the latest changes The Pokémon Company and Game Freak applied to the recent "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" game for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 that focused on real-time combat.

'Pokémon' Gen 10 Game Rumor: Combat Revamp Is Coming

A new rumor from Light_88 via X suggests another shake-up in the "Pokémon" gaming franchise as the leaker claimed that another combat revamp is taking place in the next game.

More importantly, it was revealed that Game Freak and The Pokémon Company are bringing back turn-based combat to the Generation 10 game, and this would make it similar to previous games released during the Switch era.

Turn-based combat has been the classic combat experience on "Pokémon" games since it started, with the Game Boy's "Pokémon Red and Green" popularizing the setup during trainer battles. With the turn-based combat setup, players would be given ample time to decide the move they will use.

According to ComicBook Gaming, this combat style for Pokémon battles is prominent even on modern "Pokémon" games, including the mainline "Scarlet and Violet," as well as the spinoff "Legends" series, "Pokémon Legends: Arceus."

The setup would have players battling or trainers where their stats or moves would dictate which would go first.

However, this has not been confirmed by the companies involved as of press time.

'Pokémon Legends: Z-A's' Real-Time Combat

The latest game in the franchise, "Pokémon Legends: Z-A," delivered an experimental combat mode for fans, which introduced real-time combat for trainer battles.

That said, "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" still accounts for move cooldowns so players could not spam the moves to attack their opponents, boost stats, or trigger protective moves entirely in real-time combat.

It remains unconfirmed if Game Freak or The Pokémon Company considers real-time combat a failure, particularly as, while many appreciated the new experience, there are still a handful of negative reactions against it.
