Pharah Gets Interesting Changes for Season 9 in Overwatch 2

Some interesting changes. Blizzard

Season 9 for Overwatch 2 is finally here are there's a lot to be happy about. There are a lot of new content available for everyone to enjoy. There are also the usual updates to the gameplay and the heroes. For this new season, the biggest change would have to be for Pharah and today we'll look into some of them.

In a post, Blizzard revealed that in introducing the updates to the hero, they had these goals in mind:

  • Empower Pharah to let her have more individual plays and lessen her reliance on heroes like Mercy.
  • Shift her movement capabilities from feathering up in the sky toward more horizontal movement which can cover distance quickly.
  • Introduce brief moments of downtime for Pharah's flight.

These goals are to ensure that Pharah is more effective as a solo hero and at higher ranked thresholds. At the same time the chance also addressed the rougher experiences players have had especially when going against Pharah. It's been found out for example that when a team picks Pharah, it limited to effective hero pool of the opposing team.

Reworked Abilities

One of the changes made to Pharah is her Hover Jets. This passive has been reworked to limit the amount of time she has in the air. In addition, fuel is now recharged only when she's touching the ground. Considering that this is a large change, Pharah has more speed and acceleration while she is in the air. This lets her travel between areas quicker. Meanwhile, the Jump Jets also now give bonus fuel, which is about 50% of the total tank. It's going to overflow when players hit 100% fuel.

Overall, these changes mean that Pharah gets to experience some downtime. However players now get to have much more control on where they want to during fights while in the air.

New Ability

The update to Pharah also introduces a new ability called as Jet Dash. What happens is that when she uses Secondary Fire, she dashes in the direction she's moving. When combined with Concussive Blast and the enhanced mobility from Hover Jets, it allows her to quickly navigate herself into positions where she's highly lethal.

Released in 2022, Overwatch 2 is available for the PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series X/S.
