ChinaJoy 2019 begins today, and with it comes a whole host of titles from China-based developers as the country’s biggest gaming expo runs the whole weekend. There are tons of games that are featured, so be sure to stick around for our coverage of everything announced at this event, especially seeing as China is starting to gain footing in video game development – and that means more great games for everyone.

Developer Giant Games combines the ever-popular sport of basketball with the ruckus of a brawler to create a very promising arcade title called Project Dunk. This three versus three balling title was featured at both E3 and PAX East earlier this year, and during ChinaJoy, the developers have announced a PS4 version incoming with the previously revealed PC version. There’s no platform announced yet for PC, so it’s still up in the air on whether or not it will be releasing only for the Epic Games Store. In any case, you can check out a gameplay trailer below to see Project Dunk in action.

What this reminded me of first and foremost is that first iteration of the free-to-play street basketball game for PC, FreeStyle Street Basketball. Of course, Project Dunk is slightly different as it proudly states that there are no rules, no boundaries and everything is all about winning – kind of counterintuitive to the whole point of basketball, but then again this is no mere basketball game. Here, you have various abilities to take away the ball from your opponents, and even utilize the environment to gain the upper hand. Want to throw that chair at your opponent like a WWE wrestler? Project Dunk has you covered, and will also praise you for the fact.

The game pits teams of three, and you can choose between different characters with different skills and abilities. As far as the game is concerned, nothing is off limits – apparently even if you have to remote control the ball into the net just to score a point.

Project Dunk will be released for the PC and PlayStation 4 at a later date.

ChinaJoy 2019 will run from August 2 to August 5. Expect more coverage from us once updates are announced.
