Searching, Overwatch fifteenth comic. Blizzard

Blizzard just released a new Overwatch comic telling fans what happens when Zarya hunts down Sombra. “Searching” teams the Russian soldier up with the one thing she hates the most, an omnic, in order to find the hacker who’s threatening her nation. The comic is full of Easter eggs and nods to past Overwatch videos and comics, which can be hard to keep track of. Here’s a full list of everything hidden in plain sight in the fifteenth comic from the Overwatch universe.

There are major spoilers for the Zarya comic and the Overwatch animated shorts below:

Katya- The comic starts off directly after the Sombra short, “ Infiltration”, ends. Sombra has threatened to reveal “Chairman Volskaya’s” secret, namely that her robot technology came from the omnics, and she wants to do everything in her power to make sure that never happens. Calling on Russia’s pride and joy, Zarya, she sends her out on a mission to save her secret.

Hanamura- Zarya talks with one of the foot soldiers of the Shimata clan, the gangster family of Hanzo and Genji.

Omic Oppression- In the background of King’s Row, we see a chain gang of Omnics, all about to be sent to prison or the scrap heap. The U.K. really hates omnics because of the Null Sector Uprising, which nearly wiped out the whole country.

Numbani- You’d have to be blind to miss Orisa hanging out with her creator, Efi.

Stepan Razin- Razin is a Cossack leader who led the charge against Russian nobility in the 1600s. The people of Dorado view Sombra as a savior, one who stands up for the little man in the face of giant corporations.

Alejandra- Zarya visits the bakery in Soldier: 76’s short, Hero. Alejandra, the girl that grumpy Morrison saved in the video, leads the duo to Sombra’s lair.

Lynx Seventeen- Zarya’s hacker partner thinks Sombra is a “collective” of people who took down Lumerico. The pink-haired brute has to inform the robot that it’s just one person.

Lumerico CEO Exonerated”- Before Sombra’s debut, Blizzard had a year-long ARG event to tease players about the upcoming hero. Lumerico is a giant energy company in Mexico which has been stealing land and resources from the people of Dorado. Sombra hacked the company's emails, showing the world the corporate espionage that had been kept under wraps. This comic shows that the CEO has been exonerated, which is kind of a bummer for those of us who like justice in our games.

“I’m kind of elusive, like winning the Summer Games”- This comic is full of Easter Eggs. The Summer Games are the Olympics of the Overwatch universe and one of my favorite in-game events.

Sombra’s Real Name- Zarya whispers “Olivia Colomar” into Sombra’s ear, who seems really freaked out. Sombra is the hacker’s code name, the phrase she uses to spread fear and panic in her victims. Now that Zarya knows who she really is, that evil grimace is nothing more than a facade.

Omnics And Zarya- The comic ends with Zarya choosing to save her new robot friend over taking in Sombra, proving to the reader that Zarya will always do the right thing, regardless of her prejudices. I always pictured the Russian weight lifter as a stereotype who likes to wrestle bears and drink vodka, but this comic did a great job of instilling some life into the character.
