The trailer shows incredible mind-numbing horror that very much captures the essence of the Outlast series: madness within an oppressive facility filled with terrible monstrosities. It also features several gameplay elements from a time before the first two games, and how it looks to be setting up what could possibly be the Wendigo’s arrival in the original Outlast.

The Outlast Trials is a first-person horror game that can be played solo or with a group. It is set in the Cold War, a time where distrust among the populace is at an all-time high; taking advantage of this, the shady Murkoff Corporation begins to test its advanced brainwashing methods with human guinea pigs, using involuntarily recruited people. In this dark facility, you and your friends will lose your sanity as you delve deeper, and you must ultimately do your best to survive the many challenges hiding within its corners.

The Outlast Trials itself is the third game in the Outlast franchise. It all started with Outlast, first released in 2013. This one tells the story of freelance investigative journalist Miles Upshur as he investigates a psychiatric hospital that holds a very dark secret. The second game, Outlast 2, follows an entirely different plot but with the same thematic elements; in it, a journalist-cameraman husband-wife duo named Blake and Lynn are separated after a crash landing in Arizona after chasing leads of a murder of a pregnant woman. There, they find themselves amid a cult war and a sinister presence that seeks to birth the apocalypse.
