No Man’s Sky fans spent the last few weeks dissecting the latest clues from The Waking Titan ARG, and now we finally have new developments to report. Last week, Canadian and U.S. players received physical Atlas passes . Hexadecimal code on the bottom of each card translates to the word “phoenix.”

That revelation was followed by a rather long silence. As of Saturday evening, however, the status command on the Waking Titan website slowly began showing numbers that eventually revealed a full phone number: 1-800-413-0110. When called, the number gave players a tone that was later converted into SSTV weather data. After some very specific and complex indexing, the phrase “Cafe Bene Nineteen Sat” was made clear. That same location had been used for No Man’s Sky ARG drops in the past, and now it was being activated again.

This clue essentially told ARG members to meet at Cafe Bene in New York City this Saturday. Because that location had closed, the status command was then updated to respond “Outro NYC 7 p.m. EST.” The time for the drop was set, and a Citizen Scientist was dispatched to receive the intel.

After some minor traffic issues, the user returned with the following memo:

This is the latest memo from the Waking Titan ARG.

“It is my honor to congratulate everyone on their tremendous work last year. The outcome of loop16 has massive implications, which many of us are still in the process of reconciling with our worldviews. As always, don't hesitate [to] reach out your personal coordinator if you are in need of support. We are in the process of organizing peer support groups for this purpose.

“In the coming year we have many exciting and challenging projects ahead of us. The most obvious, and critical, is the next phase of Waking Titan. The Citizen Science Division is beginning to receive their Atlas Passes. Make sure you all 'get plenty of sleep while you still can.' Once the next phase starts we'll need you at your best.”

The phrase “REMS” was written on the back of the piece of paper, later determined to be a reference to the REM sleep cycle. Entering “REM Sleep” as the password for the mysterious 10th glyph linked to this survey, asking ARG players what they’d like to see from the next phase of Waking Titan. In order to complete the questionnaire, interested parties must enter “REMS” or “REM Sleep” as the answer to question six. After that, you’ll be offered the chance to enter your email address to receive more info about the leftovers of something called Lab 319.

These new developments basically tell us it will likely be a while before the next phase of Waking Titan truly begins. This brief uptick was essentially used to remind fans the game is still underway. The number 1.5 was used to kick off the latest glyph hunt, so maybe it was a clue to expect more info on May 5. International dates list the day first, after all.

The implications of these findings with regard to No Man’s Sky’s next big update are even more obtuse. So far we’ve seen the words “phoenix,” “sleep” and “mirror” featured in the clues. While the former word hasn’t led to much discussion, the latter has prompted theories that the next patch may allow players to see their first-person avatars. That’s all speculation for now, though, so get some rest and keep dreaming of Hello Games’ infinite universe.

REVIEW SUMMARY
No Man's Sky
6.5
A Beautiful Sci-Fi Novel That's All Cover, No Book
'No Man's Sky' is a space exploration game unlike any other, for better and worse. It's a sci-fi adventure game that feels like classic sci-fi novel covers. Too bad it's missing so many chapters.
  • A massive universe to explore
  • Cool alien races
  • A brilliant showcase of procedural technology
  • Not much to do beyond resource collection
  • Alien interactions are fairly meaningless
  • Not as unique as originally advertised.
