A weekend since the release of the Nintendo Switch, sales numbers are beginning to come into focus. While Nintendo doesn’t normally divulge sales figures for consoles and software unless they are on the right side of history, it seems the company has teased sales figures for the Switch and even for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Nick Wingfield of The New York Times conducted an interview with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, and divulged some Nintendo Switch sales figures over Twitter.

It’s a lengthy thread and the exact numbers were not given, but the series of tweets does shed some light as to how many Nintendo Switch units were sold in its first weekend in the Americas and where it stands next to past Nintendo consoles.

According to the tweets, Friday to Saturday sales for Nintendo Switch exceeded first two-day sales in the United States for any system in the company’s history. The next biggest was Wii. Wingfield claims this is notable because the Switch launched in March and not during the holiday season when spending is higher.

Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch is already the best-selling standalone launch title (not a bundled game like Wii Sports) in Nintendo history, beating Super Mario 64.

Wingfield states that long-term comparisons to past Nintendo consoles, especially the Wii which sold more than 100 million units, are tough, but it’s a good start for the Switch. He adds that big games coming in 2017 will likely fuel sales of the Switch moving forward.

Again, there’s no sales figures but given how well the Nintendo Switch seems to have performed at launch it's only a matter of time until Nintendo releases that information to the public and we will update with proper numbers when they are released.
