The Nintendo Switch will allow users to download and play GameCube games, according to Eurogamer. The site even claims this news has been confirmed by three separate sources, making it pretty much a confirmed fact at this point.

According to Eurogamer, three GameCube games have already been tested for the Virtual Console. They are Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine and fan-favorite Super Smash Bros. Melee. Perhaps even more exciting, Nintendo is also looking to allow the Switch to use the GameCube controller adapter made for the Wii U.

One of the major reasons to include GameCube support on the Switch Virtual Console is the enduring popularity of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Nintendo is aware that Melee is still hugely popular in the fighting game scene and is looking to keep that interest alive on its latest console.

Another rumor reported by Eurogamer claims the Virtual Console on the Switch will again offer an upgrade program. Those who have bought games on the Wii U Virtual Console will likely be offered the option to get their purchases again at a reduced fee, instead of paying full price a second time. This is nice, but Nintendo really needs to get on the level of Microsoft and Sony, allowing you to restore purchases made on your account from wherever you are.

As for other games coming to the Virtual Console, Eurogamer’s sources say Animal Crossing is in the works now. Those that have played Animal Crossing know that you can access classic Nintendo games like Donkey Kong and Zelda in the game, and the sources say this feature is working as intended. That means buying Animal Crossing on the Switch may be worth it just for all the extra goodies.

So what do you think? Are you excited to play GameCube games on the go with the Nintendo Switch? What games do you want to see end up on the Virtual Console? My personal vote goes to Custom Robo. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
