Pokémon Sun and Moon has been released for some time now but it still seems there are secrets to be found within the code of the Gen 7 games.

Dataminers recently found low-polygon models of Pokémon within the code of Sun and Moon . What’s even more interesting is some code points toward these Pokémon being able to walk behind you.

Veteran Pokémon players may recognize this trailing behind the trainer feature from Pokémon Yellow, when Pikachu followed your trainer for the entire adventure. It was later perfected in Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver where the first Pokémon in the party trailed behind players.

The low-polygon models found in the Sun and Moon code may suggest Game Freak is preparing for the rumored Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch. Some speculators suggest these models were for the camera function on the Rotom Dex but were scrapped, or that Sun and Moon was originally supposed to have the walking feature but it caused problems with the game’s framerate.

The supposed upcoming Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch has been dubbed Pokémon Stars but new information has been non-existent.

The Pokémon Company’s CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara, is on record saying a game is coming to the new console and perhaps the January Nintendo Switch presentation will shed some more light on the lineup of games coming to the console but until then, this is all speculation for now.

But we want to know your thoughts, are these unused models for a scrapped feature of Sun and Moon or preparations for something more? Let us know in the comments section below.
