On the morning of Jan. 17, various Nintendo sites teased the announcement of a new “interactive experience” for the Nintendo Switch, which has a lot of fans trying to figure out what exactly will be shown.

This Nintendo Switch announcement will be broadcast around 5 p.m. EST, but before fans get their hopes up, it seems whatever Nintendo plans to reveal will be aimed toward a younger audience.

The first news of this mysterious Nintendo Switch “experience” came from the official Nintendo of Japan Twitter account, which teased a “new play” will be revealed on its website on the morning of Jan. 18 in Japan.

The Nintendo U.K. website has similar information, stating “tune in to discover a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specially crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart.”

Nintendo’s timing on this announcement is a bit odd, considering it held a Mini Direct just a week ago, showing off some upcoming Switch games . Perhaps Nintendo felt a kid-friendly game would not go over well during the Direct, which had fans foaming at the mouth when word of the event leaked weeks before.

The “crafted for kids” aspect of the announcement may be more than just a child-friendly game. Perhaps the Switch will receive a new streaming app geared toward kids.

Netflix would be a welcome addition to the Switch, but the streaming service came out recently to state that they are still exploring options with Nintendo and don’t have any definitive plans at present.

Whether it’s something as neat as a new streaming app or as mundane as a new game targeted at children, fans won’t have to wait too long to get to the bottom of this announcement.

Of course, we recommend keeping expectations to a minimum as we get closer to the reveal. But in the meantime, we’d like to know what you think the announcement will bring in the comments section below.
