Nintendo Switch is coming in hot with multiple games from The Elder Scrolls studio Bethesda. Interestingly, however, a representative from the developer stopped short of confirming what appears to be a version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as assumed by the console’s trailer. The full context of the message is below.

"We’re happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future."

There are a few key things to discern from the brief mention. First, and most notably, is the fact that Bethesda mentions no single, specific game title in the release. Many major outlets and gamers are assuming the trailer’s footage featured a cut from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but nothing to that effect is mentioned in this particular case. Is it because the Switch version has a unique name? Is it possibly not Skyrim at all and instead another game in The Elder Scrolls universe like The Elder Scrolls Online? If this source is any indication, we may have to wait for more details.

In addition, we know “specific games” are in development for the Switch. The plural there is important, because it seems to imply other titles may be in the works, in addition to the Skyrim-like experience featured in the system’s trailer this morning. Bethesda is a growing publisher with many major franchises like Fallout, Dishonored and Doom, so could some of those make their way to the forthcoming Nintendo platform? It’s a possibility.

As we published earlier this morning, Nintendo Switch announcement included a wide array of 3rd-party efforts from the likes of EA, Ubisoft, Activision and several other several other studios. In addition to that, Nintendo-made staples the The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, a new Super Mario Bros. title and Mario Kart were prominently shown.

The Nintendo Switch is expected to release in March 2017.
