After the massive success of Nier Automata, it was obvious that Square Enix has more plans for the IP. Recently, it was announced that the original Nier, aka Nier Replicant, is getting a high-definition remaster. The remastered version is named Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139. Yep, that’s the official name. It will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam, however, the official release window has not been announced.

The original Nier was released back in 2010 and was available only for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game wasn’t as successful as its sequel, but it is still a good game in its own right. It is considered a cult classic by its fans. The remastered features have not been revealed just yet, but we can expect at least a graphics upgrade. Wait, there’s more. We are also getting a brand new mobile game called Nier Reincarnation. The game will be available for iOS and Andriod. Not much is known about the story or characters so far, but we do know that it features a place called the Cage and it’s apparently dangerous. Just like the remastered Nier Replicant, the release window for Nier Reincarnation has not yet been announced. Watch the teaser trailer for Nier Reincarnation below
Both games feel small in comparison to Automata, as one is a remaster and the other is a mobile game. I have nothing against them, however, a proper sequel would definitely breath life back into the series. Maybe Square Enix does have plans for a sequel, and they are just testing the waters with these titles. I guess we will find out in a couple of months.
The Nier series might not be the biggest of the Square Enix IPs, however, it has been getting some recognition lately. Nier Automata was a massive hit critically, and even won DICE’s Role-Playing GOTY award along with some awards for its music. Automata recently sold over 4.5 million copies.
