After Nakoruru, Darli Dagger, and Ukyo Tachibana, it’s now Shiki’s time to shine in the fourth character-focused trailer of Samurai Shodown.

There are a few things we learned about Shiki after watching the trailer. Shiki is definitely a speedy character and teleportation is her specialty. She has two katana blades and wields both of them. The blades have names, and are called “Darkness Demon Ring” and “Light God Ring”. As for her appearance, her right eye is blue and her left is red. She also has a badass snake tattoo on her back which is apparently a mark made by Yuga to control her. Even before birth Shiki was cursed to serve Yuga.

If you haven’t seen the first three characters, here’s a bit of info about them:

  • Nakoruru, also known as “Mother Nature’s Guardian”, has the role to protect Nature and defeat villains. She has her pet Mamahaha with her at all times.
  • Darli Dagger is a new character. She is said to be a shipwright who was taught by carpenters and pirates. She is currently working on an unsinkable ship.
  • Ukyo Tachibana is a swordsman who is burdened with tuberculosis. He relies on quick sword techniques to defeat his enemies.

Samurai Shodown is a blade-wielding fighting game series that was developed by SNK and published by Athlon Games. The game has been going for 26 years now since it was released in 1993. After an 11 year break, Samurai Shodown is back with extravagant features and visuals. It will stick to the original game mechanics that it was known and famous for that led the series to its success.

Samurai Shodown also includes a feature that picks up on the patterns of players and uses this information to create a CPU-controlled character. There will be three new characters to the franchise, including Darli Dagger, the character introduced in the game’s second trailer. The game’s setting will be the year 1787, a year before the first Samurai Shodown.

Samurai Shodown will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox one on June 27 in Japan and is set to be released in North America and Europe sometime later in the same month. It is expected to come out for Switch and PC this Winter.
