A New Kind Of Escape Game Is Headed Your Way This December

An exciting concept.
An exciting concept. Haregake

If you’re the type who likes mysteries, then you’re in luck. Developer Haregake is set to introduce a game titled World Detective Mystery. Episode Tokyo ~ The ENIGMA and the Secret Treasure. Yes, it’s a mouthful. The game is set to be released on December 19.

Now before we go to the game itself, here's a bit of background info. World Detective Mystery is considered a type of escape game. According to a statement released by Haregake, this is an experiential game that “allows every player to unfold his/her own story as one of its characters.” In essence, the game hopes to “inspire players to solve mysteries and ciphers appearing one after another and unfold their own stories.”

The game is part of "Tokyo Nazotoki Escape," an entertainment brand launched international last month. Haregake revealed that they hope the brand will provide “people in the world with mystery-solving games not requiring language knowledge and stimulating their power of imagination, like cryptanalysis, puzzles, and mysteries.”

Indeed, this upcoming game is not only offered in English, but can be played even while at home. In the game, players take on the role of a detective searching across Tokyo in order to solve a mystery. The mystery begins when the players receive a letter from a girl named Erika. It appears her father has left her a mysterious and coded letter.

Through the game, players get to visit different tourist attractions in Tokyo. These different scenes are going to be important in solving the mystery. Since the game has a first-person perspective, this allows players to take a virtual stroll through Tokyo, with Erika by your side.

Pre-orders are accepted starting on December 1, with shipping to start on the launch date. The game is priced at 1,650 yen, which is around $16. This does not include shipping costs, however. Developer Haregake said that for beginners, the game should take around one to two hours to complete.

You can learn more about the game here.

What do you think? Willing to give this one a shot? Well, we're excited to try this one out to get a semblance of a vacation in 2020.
