NBA 2K23: The City Returns with New Layout

Welcome to the City!
Welcome to the City! 2K

The City is back to NBA 2K23, and players can look forward to new upgrades and seamless integrations with MyCAREER mode. The downside, if you can call it that, is that the upgrades are only available on next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In a statement, VP of NBA Development at 2K and Visual Concepts Erick Boenisch shared that the City has long been an authentic way for many players to experience what basketball culture is all about. By tying the City with MyCAREER, players get the chance to live out their careers uniquely. He added that the innovations introduced have been a lot about community feedback, and they're excited for players to see what the game has to offer.

New features and improvements to be experienced in the City on NBA 2K23 include:

  • Traversal Times
    • Based on community feedback, the City is slightly smaller than in NBA 2K22.
    • This is to provide a better experience.
    • Fast Travel stations have been added to quickly jump around the City.
  • Affiliation Boroughs
    • Completely revamped boroughs have relocated and turned thematic destinations that really touch the true essence of each borough.
  • The Block and Theater
    • The new mecca of competition, the Block, is located at the center of the City, where players can find all of the great content in one central hub.
    • The Theater replaces the warehouse buildings and serves as a hub to play instant matchmaking games.
    • Every Friday, the four-event playlist completely swaps out to four new events.
  • Dreamville Studio
    • Founded by Grammy-nominated artist and producer J. Cole, Dreamville Studio is a location MyPLAYERs get access to if they befriend J. Cole in MyCAREER during their quest to win over the City.
  • The Arena
    • A new location where to play MyCAREER games.
    • The Arena provides a pre-game atmosphere with a sprawling plaza out front.
    • To prepare for the game, players enter and show off their fit in front of the waiting media, completing available quests, and taking questions from the media post-game.
  • Event Center and Jordan Challenge Building
    • The new design and look of the Event Center add a whole new level of flair, fitting for such an important building,
    • Meanwhile, the Jordan Challenge Building provides players with easy access to the new in-game mode.

NBA 2K23 is launching on September 9 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
