Warner Bros. Games dropped a bombshell with the reveal of a new title in the Mortal Kombat franchise launching September 19. Dubbed Mortal Kombat 1, it's going to introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat universe created by none other than Fire God Liu Kang. The game is set to feature reimagined versions of iconic characters on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

This upcoming title brings back the Story Mode and continues to offer an immersive cinematic narrative with surprise twists on classic rivalries and original backstories for a wide-ranging cast of legendary fighters including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage.
Mortal Kombat 1 will also introduce Kameo Fighters, a unique roster of partner characters that can assist players during matches. This should open more gameplay possibilities.
In a statement, Warner Bros. Games President David Haddad revealed that with this game, they're introducing a reimagined universe to an already legendary franchise. He said that the game is not only going to attract new players but also provide a thrill to the core fans.
Meanwhile, Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer of NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat, shared that this serves as a new beginning for the series and they're excited to share an original storyline and a fresh take on the franchise's classic characters.
